Interesting article on what they are going to do after Windows 8.

“The approach is simple, Microsoft will price its next Windows release at a low cost or even free to ensure users upgrade. Once Windows Blue is released, the Windows SDK will be updated to support the new release and Microsoft will stop accepting apps that are built specifically for Windows 8, pushing developers to create apps for Blue. Windows 8 apps will continue to run on Blue despite the planned SDK changes.”

It is amazing how time moves so quickly and here we are now in the 10th year the Phrenic Systems has been in business and providing the best IT support to our clients. Designing a highly reliable small & medium business network

If you've ever been an IT manager for a small business network, you're aware of one simple fact: small and medium business (SMB) networks are generally something of a mess. Typically, they're organically grown and built off of consumer-class hardware. Network management tools are usually non-existent, documentation is erratic, and redundancy is totally absent. The end result is that the typical SMB network is a virtual fireball, with the network admin running around carrying a pail and trying to extinguish the fires.

Great article about how well positioned the Canadian economy is to weather the econmic downturn.

Over the past 15 years, as the United States and Europe loosened regulations on their financial industries, the Canadians refused to follow suit, seeing the old rules as useful shock absorbers. Canadian banks are typically leveraged at 18 to 1—compared with U.S. banks at 26 to 1 and European banks at a frightening 61 to 1. Partly this reflects Canada’s more risk-averse business culture, but it is also a product of old-fashioned rules on banking.”

2009 Canadian Budget and IT

As part of the stimulus package to help during this recession the Federal Government added items to the 2009 budget that will be of interest to business owners who are thinking about or going to be spending money on their businesses IT infrustructure. Of interest is that businesses will be able to fully deduct the cost of eligible computer hardware and software in the first year instead of showing as a depreciating asset on your books. Businesses should speak to their accounts and see how this will affect their computer hardware purchases.

“The 2009 Budget proposes a temporary 100% CCA rate for eligible computers and software acquired after January 27, 2009 and before February 2011. This 100% CCA rate would not be subject to the half-year rule and, consequently, a business would be able to fully deduct the cost of eligible computers and systems software in the first year that CCA deductions are available. Eligible computers and systems software must be situated in Canada, used to earn income in Canada, and not previously used for any purpose before acquisition by the taxpayer for use in Canada.”
